PROFESSIONAL SOCCER PERSONAL TRAINER
My name is Mandou Bojang. I was born in The Gambia on 18th november 1988 and stand 6.2. When I was a kid, I loved playing soccer. Soccer was part of my daily activity. There was a soccer field very close to our house, so all the kids in the neighborhood played together. We would sometimes play barefoot, because most of us did not have shoes. In working together as a team on the field we would ask those with shoes to take them off. This way no one could hurt another; plus, we would all be equal. Through my teenage years my love for soccer developed, I wanted to be a professional soccer player. In my hometown, the team was called “Black Pool FC”; I became the central defender and central midfielder for the team. Every year there was an organized local tournament called “nawentan” and our team did very well in this tournament. My goal was to be part of the Gambian National Team. My focus switched to added practice and physical training. After playing for my town team “Black Pool” for three years I was recruited by the Under-17 National Team; there were six hundred players invited during tryouts; in the end twenty-five players had to be selected; I was amongst the first-five selected players, becoming the central defender for the U-17 Gambian National Team.
The team won the U17 African Cup National Tournament in 2005; from there we qualified and went to the FIFA U17 World Cup in Peru in 2005. I was then promoted to the U-20 National Team in 2007, taking third position and leading us to the FIFA U-20 World Cup. I played ninety- minutes in all games, both nationally and internationally.
I visited the United States of America twice with the Gambian U-17 and U-20 National Teams for training camp. My third visit was to tryout for the Los Angeles Galaxy Team in 2008. My fourth visit to the United States occurred after I got married in Gambia. I came back to the United States to try out for the Seattle Sounders team. I was not selected. Soon afterwards, an injury kept me from making the team. My wife had a baby girl and I began working to support my family.
In conclusion, my goal now is to share my skills and experience with children as a personal soccer coach.
My Hobbies
In my free time, I collect clothing donations and send them to Gambia for families in need. I love spending time with my family and friends, as well as watching the English Premier League and the NFL.
